Getting Older

The idea of spending day after day on this earth is intriguing. With each new day, new knowledge is scribed into your brain, sometimes when you don’t even realize it.
Then you hit a point in your 50s when you know so much….but some of that knowledge could have been SO useful in earlier years. But it’s important enough to recognize it.
The observation that drove me to this rambling collection of thoughts occurred while my wife and I were sitting in my car today, enjoying the fruits of Dick’s Drive-In.
She hearkened back to the days when hamburgers at Dick’s were a quarter and fries just 19-cents. I remembered the 19-cent hamburger at McDonald’s back in the early 1960’s, along with nickel fries. Yeah, I’ve been on this earth a long time.
There were also nickel scoops of ice cream. At Thrifty Drug, we could walk in and get a triple scoop cone for just 15-cents.
At the time, we knew it was a deal….but at the same time, we never imagined the prices of today.
To summarize, regardless of the economic turmoil, the rumors that things will get worse before they get better, etc. YOU are living the “good ‘ol days” right now. These are the times you’ll tell your kids or grandkids about (or blog about it on a website)
I saw a sign today that reminded me of the basic truth: “Life is not a destination; it’s a journey”.
As my late broadcast pal Larry Nelson reminded me often: “Enjoy the ride.”

  1. It can be a bumpy ride at times, but the best years of my life are right now on this Journey with persons of a like-mind, and a commentator like Tim Hunter.
